Jenny and Tom at Culeaze House, near Wareham, Dorset.
On Saturday John and I attended the wedding of Jenny and Tom at Holy Angels Church, Poole, Dorset. Each wedding is different and each provides us with a set of photographic challenges that have to be overcome. This was our first wedding of the season where we weren’t allowed for one of us to be near the front of the church. We also weren’t allowed to move around during the service or use flash. We were of course respectful of everyones wishes but good job we’ve got fast lenses, a tripod and there’s two of us to cover the story. This wedding photographically speaking would have been a disaster for any amateur/student trying his/her hand at wedding photography as a favour. Outside of the church the conditions were sunny and very humid as Jenny and Tom took a friends borrowed Rolls Royce for their drive out to Culeaze House near Wareham, Dorset. John and I had been to Culeaze House a few weeks before with Jenny and Tom to check out the venue, and what a great place it is, especially if you’re into quirky antiques. The house is full of character and includes antlers, tiger skins, top hats, old fishing gear, and old riding boots. The wedding receptions are held in marquees within the grounds of the four acre gardens and family friends and relatives camped in tents and caravans within the small estate. We took photographs of the wedding cake with nice personal touches of runners feet, we weren’t employed for the first dance but I’m sure Tom and Jenny had a great day. John and I wish Tom and Jenny all the best for their lives together.
Weddings at Glastonbury Festival, Somerset.

As the law stands, it is not possible to have a legal marriage at the Glastonbury Festival as Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset is not a licensed venue. So, until the law changes, that legally binding wedding under your favourite tree will have to wait. However, many wedding proposals both public and private take place throughout the long weekend. During a Magic Numbers set on the Queens Head stage on the Sunday night the performance was interrupted by someone proposing, which I believe was accepted.

Free wedding for quitting smoking |
|
A charity in the Saudi capital Riyadh has come up with a novel incentive to encourage young men to quit smoking - an all-expenses-paid wedding. Hundreds of men have expressed interest in the anti-smoking drive, including a non-smoker who was ready to start the habit just so he could take part. Banners in Riyadh are advertising the campaign slogan: “Kicking the habit is on you, and marriage is on us.” In much of the Arab world, the groom alone bears the cost of a wedding. The charity Purity says participants will complete a seven-day course to quit smoking. ‘Sexist’ The name of the grand prize winner will be decided in a draw on 6 August. Twenty runners-up will get free furniture. The high expense for a wedding means that Arab men often put off marriage until they have saved enough money to take a bride. Some in Saudi Arabia have criticised the campaign, suggesting it might devalue what they consider a holy union, while others called the concept sexist. But a spokesman for the charity said the aim was to create a smoke-free family. “The fact that people are discussing the campaign means we have fulfilled our goal of spreading the word about it,” said Salem al-Majdali. It is estimated about a quarter of Saudi Arabia’s 27.6 million residents smoke. |

Wedding photography at Orchardleigh House/Estate, near Bath/Frome Somerset and candle-lit St Mary Island Church

Orchardleigh House is one of the south west of England’s largest wedding venues and is an ideal location for the fairytale wedding. Located ten miles south of Bath, the Estate covers 550 acres of parkland and lakes and has its own 18 hole golf course. The house is however for exclusive use only and the rich history of Orchardleigh dates back to the Domesday Book and is one of the most unspoilt English Country Estates, with the Estate only changing family ownership twice in the last 800 years. It has two churches, the most romantic being the so called Island Church which is surrounded by a moat, and is candlelit as no electricity is available within the church. The romantic charms of this Orchardleigh church aren’t a secret-this small 13th century church carried out more weddings last year than any other Church of England church. The BBC have also been attracted by Orchardleigh’s charm and romance and on Sunday 12th July 2009, an interview with Pam Rhodes from Orchardleigh will be broadcast on “Songs of Praise” on BBC1. John and I visited the venue the day before the wedding to meet up with Tim and Lucy again and to check out the venues, and what a venue!…Images to follow, but it was a wonderful day and Lucy and Tim made such a fantastic couple, and our wedding photography was made so much easier by such naturals. It was a pleasure to photograph Lucy and Tim’s wedding and John and I wish them all the best for their married life together.

Wedding couples cut back on costs |
|
New research has shown that two thirds of brides and grooms are cutting down on the cost of their wedding. The survey said that an increasing number of couples are choosing to do more for themselves on their big day like writing their own invitations. Some have even asked their guests to bring their own food and drink. Some 4,000 guests were questioned and more than 60% of them admitted to being fed up with the increasing cost of weddings and the hen or stag parties. One in five guests said they spent around £250 on the stag or hen party and 30% said they spent the same amount on going to the wedding. 11% of those questioned said they had been invited to a wedding in the past year which had been cancelled or postponed because of financial difficulties. The study for Visa’s bettermoneyskills.com showed that 40% of men and 30% of women would cut back and spend less if they got married again. Hotel chain offers £999 wedding package. Any cheap wedding packages available in Dorset and Somerset?
June 19, 2009 | Filed Under Weddings | Leave a Comment
Junction 23 off the M6 in Lancashire isn’t the most romantic location but young lovers are flocking there to get married. The Holiday Inn hotel chain is pulling in couples hit by the credit crunch by offering a wedding package including bucks fizz, a hot pot supper and DJ for £999.
There are several offers on e-bay and other internet sites but most cheap deals seem to be located in the north west. I haven’t come across any super-cheap wedding packages in Dorset and Somerset. Of course www.wessexweddings.co.uk offers exceptional value for money wedding photography in Dorset and Somerset rather than the cheapest deal in town, or motorway junction.
“Florence and The Machine” to play at Camp Bestival July 24th, Lulworth Castle, Dorset.

One of the hottest bands and much hyped by many as their latest top find in the new performers league “Florence and the Machine” to play at Camp Bestival July 24th, Lulworth Castle, Dorset. I have just heard them for the first time so I’m a bit out of the trendy loop. Then again I’m just getting into Amy Winehouse. Of course when un-trendy folks like myself get to know a band the uber cool then blame the band for selling out. “I remember when they were great before they released a single, and look at them now they’ve sold out.” “I saw her play in my mates flat before they toured beyond London. Wicked.” ” I was there when she was conceived and she sounded fantastic. I always new she’d be a star.” “I was hanging out on the street corner, in a kind of “Waiting for Godot” moment and I knew from the beginning she was going to be big. This was on a Tuesday, I remember clearly as it was a couple of days before “The Big Bang.”
