Husband in longest marriage dies

Frank and Anita Milford

Anita and Frank survived when a bomb hit their home during WWII

One half of Britain’s longest married couple has died at the Plymouth residential home where he lived with his wife of 81 years.

Frank Milford met Anita, both 101, at a YMCA dance in Plymouth, Devon, in 1926 and they married two years later.

The couple said the secret of their marriage was “give and take” and making up after rows with a kiss and cuddle.

Mr Milford’s 76-year-old son, who is also called Frank, said his mother was holding his father’s hand when he died.

“She’s very upset obviously, but she was sitting holding his hand when he passed away,” he told BBC News.

The couple never went to bed without a kiss and cuddle

“For the past three weeks or so he hasn’t been eating or drinking and I think we all realised he was ready to die.

“He knew it was his time and I think he simply died of old age.”

Despite his frailty, Mr Milford said his father had remained “as sharp as a tack” and never lost his sense of humour.

Frank and Anita Milford spent their entire married life in Plymouth and stayed in the city throughout World War II.

During the Blitz they narrowly escaped two bombs, including one which fell on their house.

Frank and Anita Milford had two children, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

In February 2010 the couple would have broken the record to become the oldest married couple in Britain.

Centenarian desires 23rd husband

Wook Kundor sits outside her house in Malaysia's northern Kuala Terengganu state

Wook Kundor says she feels “lonely” during her husband’s absence

A 107-year-old Malaysian woman has said she wants to get married again, for the 23rd time, as she fears her husband wants to leave her, says a report.

When Wook Kundor married four years ago to a man 70 years her junior their wedding photos made regional media.

But now she fears her husband will not return home after completing treatment for drug addiction in Kuala Lumpur.

She told reporters she felt “lonely” without her husband, ahead of the Muslim feast at the end of Ramadan.

‘Insecurity’

Wook Kundor, who lives in northern Kuala Terengganu state, said she planned to visit her husband - Muhammad Noor Che Musa - if her neighbours would drive her to the capital, where he is receiving voluntary treatment.

She said she would re-consider her plans if the 37-year-old told her he still had feelings for her.

Speaking to The Star newspaper in Malaysia she said: “Lately, there is this kind of insecurity in me.

“I realise I am an aged woman… My intention to re-marry is to fill my forlornness, and nothing more than that.”

Her husband, who used to be her lodger, had previously said it was “God’s will” that he fell in love with his wife to be.

Couples in China queue to marry on 09/09/09.

September 9, 2009 | Filed Under Weddings | Leave a Comment

Thousands of couples in China got married on September 9, in the hope that tying the knot on 09/09/09 would bring longevity.

The literal translation of nine nine is long-lasting, so couples joined queues early in the morning to marry on what they believed is an auspicious date.

The wedding photographers must have thought it was their Christmas Day/ New Year’s Day and their birthday rolled into one big pay day. This wouldn’t have been the case for  Wessexweddings based in Dorset/Somerset as they only undertake one wedding a day.
