Welcome to our new approach to wedding photography

Wessex Wedding Photography, based in Dorset and Somerset in the south west of England, is the collaboration between two award winning photographers; John Burton and Paul Quayle. Between them they have a large selection of published work, competition success and many years experience. It is this large body of experience that enables us to go beyond that of the traditional wedding photographer. We are based in Dorset and Somerset but can travel anywhere to photograph weddings and civil partnerships.

Wedding Bride and Groom

Tradition

Ultimately which wedding photographer to use comes down to personal choice and who you feel comfortable with. Some seem stuck in the 'formal posed' mode. Others seem to go for a lot of black and white images; which seems to be a current trend. We always like to meet couples first if possible and can travel to meet prospective clients. However, we offer a free informal studio shoot to any couple booking and who want to come and visit us here at our studio in Dorset to discuss their wedding arrangements; especially as it is close to a number of venues like the Larmer Tree.

Fun

Through Window

Whilst every couple almost certainly wants a few posed and group shots we are more and more of the opinion that couples now want a much more relaxed style of wedding photography. It should be a fun record of the day rather than tired, posed shots that will only be pulled out of the drawer now and again!

We do all the photography ourselves; i.e. none of it is subcontracted out to someone else - which also happens sometimes.

Relatives can buy copies online via the web gallery if they want (particularly as this avoids you having to get involved in sending them copies of photos etc.) but they are not obliged to do so.

Wedding Dance

A New Approach

We've tried to bring a fresh approach; in that we charge a basic fee of £995 for attending a wedding (up to 9 hours - travel extra outside of the immediate area) and then prepare approximately 400 images for you to choose from. These are also uploaded to your own online gallery for friends and relatives to view. We will also send you all the images (cropped and adjusted for exposure etc) on CD at high resolution so that you can use them as you wish; you can make copies for friends, they are yours to do as you wish (other than publish commercially). Please see the prices page for further options.

We find that many 'young people' these days are perfectly competent at putting together their own album or DVD if they want. Prints, extra photoshop work, canvas prints, albums etc. are all priced separately and available if you want. However, there is absolutely no hard sell or requirement to buy anything further from us. Contact us should you wish to discuss your wedding photography.

By working from our homes in Dorset and Somerset (and not running an expensive city shop/studio!), you might be surprised at the value we are able to offer. We reduce our costs not our quality. We hold full public liability insurance in line with best professional practice.

Our passion is not just to "take the pictures" but to capture your wedding story. Our two photographer coverage means that  we have the advantage of  literally "being in two places at once." While one photographer will capture all of the action  and emotion leading up to the bride's arrival at the ceremony the other photographer will be attending to the groom, the best man and the guests arriving. Also one photographer organises the "formals" while the other captures the guests reactions in an informal way. Our clients love this added coverage.

Testimonial

Of course we love it when our clients tell us how much they like our work!
